HAVERFORD, Pa.—The University of Scranton held Arcadia University to just six shot attempts in the consolation match of the Haverford College Kickoff Classic Sunday afternoon.

The Royals, unfortunately, failed to cash in on any of their 18 shot attempts, settling for a 0-0 tie in double overtime.  Scranton is now 0-0-2 after forging a 3-3 tie against William Paterson Saturday afternoon. William Paterson advanced to today’s match against Haverford by virtue of a 4-1 advantage in penalty kicks yesterday, but lost 3-1.

Both Scranton and Arcadia’s defense rose to the occasion today.

The Royals allowed only two shots on goal, both of which were stopped by junior goalkeeper Kelsey McAnelly (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy).   Arcadia, now 0-1-1, returned the favor by holding the Royals to just four shots on goal, all of which were stopped by freshman goalkeeper Ashley Vaitis (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn).

This is the first time in the 30-year history of the Scranton program that the Royals have opened a season with back-to-back ties.

Scranton will return to action this Wednesday, September 5, against Wilkes University in Edwardsville beginning at 4:00 p.m.
