Men's Soccer Among Nation's Leaders In Handful of Statistical Categories

Off to its best start in 25 years, The University of Scranton men's soccer team finds itself ranked among the leaders in NCAA Division III in a five different statistical categories, while two Royals find themselves among the individual leaders as well.

At 7-0, the Royals are off to the fourth-best start in school history and the best since they went a school-record 20-0 to start the 1987 season. They are one of just 10 undefeated teams remaining in NCAA Division III this season.

Scranton is averaging 3.14 goals per game, which is 21st in all of NCAA Division III. The Royals are also 32nd in total assists with 18, 41st in total points with 62, 43rd in goals-against average at 0.71, and 46th in total goals scored with 22.

Individually, senior midfielder Bill McGuiness (Forty Fort, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) is 40th in the country in points per game at 2.14. He is also ranked 54th in three other categories – total points (15), total goals (6) and goals per game (0.86).

Senior goalie James Dillon (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) is ranked 54th in the country in goals-against average at 0.714. He is also 95th in save percentage at 0.808.

The Royals are back in action this afternoon when they travel to Ithaca, N.Y. to take on Ithaca College at 4 p.m.
