EDWARDSVILLE, Pa.—The University of Scranton women's soccer team's struggles on offense continued Wednesday afternoon against former Freedom Conference rival Wilkes University.

The Royals failed to get on the scoreboard for the second straight match and dropped a 2-0 decision to the Lady Colonels.  With the loss, Scranton falls to 0-1-2.

Wilkes, now 3-0, got goals from senior forwards Jana Martin (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Central) and Katy Fissel (Madison, NJ/Madison) within a 16-minute span of the first half to post its first win over Scranton since September 11, 2007.

Freshman Kate Mahoney (Kingston, NH/Central Catholic) made five saves to earn the shutout in goal for Wilkes while Scranton junior goalkeeper Kelsy McAnelly (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) stopped two shots.

The Royals, along with Marywood University, will host Ithaca College and Lebanon College on Saturday and Sunday, September 8-9, at 1:00 p.m., respectively, in the Joe Bochicchio Classic to be held at Fitzpatrick Field.

The late Joe Bochicchio was head coach at Scranton from 1984 through 2006 and led the Royals to 296 wins, including 15 Middle Atlantic/Freedom Conference championships and 11 NCAA Division III tournament appearances.  He passed away on July 24, 2007, nearly six months shy of his 60th birthday.
