WASHINGTON, DC—Junior outside hitter Julia Crilly (Rochester, NY/Aquinas Institute)
had 17 kills, 13 digs, and three service aces to lead The
University of Scranton volleyball team to its third straight win, a
3-1 decision over Goucher College in the second round of Landmark
Conference round-robin action Saturday.
The Royals, now 8-19 overall and 2-3 in conference play, also
received eight kills from sophomore middle hitter Stephanie Klug (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood),
six kills and two blocks from senior outside hitter Michaela McCrudden (Fort Washington, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph
Academy), seven kills and four blocks from sophomore
middle hitter Rachael Cisto (Oxford, Conn./Sacred Heart
Academy), six kills and two blocks from sophomore outside
hitter Lizzy Zimmermann (Livingston, NJ/Livingston),
and 31 assists and five digs from freshman setter Bailey Woods (Wallingford, Pa./Strath
Haven).
Megan Chalk led the Gophers, now 9-15 overall and 0-4 in the
Landmark, with 10 kills and 11 digs and Corrine Kahler and Meredith
Johnson combined for 23 digs.
Today’s win guarantees the Royals can finish no lower than
fourth place in the conference.
Scranton will return to action this Tuesday, October 22, against
Penn State-Berks beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Long Center.
Prior to the start of the match, McCrudden and Kelly
Johnson (Pearl River, NY/Albertus Magnus) will be
honored as part of Senior Night festivities.
