SCRANTON, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's
volleyball team got off to a slow start Tuesday night against
crosstown rival Marywood, but when the dust settled nearly two
hours later, the Royals had scored a 3-1 victory at Insalaco
Arena.
The Royals (10-21) rallied after dropping the first set, 13-25,
to win the final three sets, 25-18, 25-14, 27-25, to improve to
26-2 all-time against the Pacers (17-9). The victory improves the
Royals to 6-2 over their last eight matches.
Junior outside hitter Julia Crilly
(Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas Institute) had another strong
game, finishing with finishing with 15 kills and 22 digs for her
14th double-double of the season. Her 22 digs marked her
second-highest total of the season behind the 28 she had in a 3-2
loss to PSU-Altoona on Sept. 21.
Senior libero Michaela
McCrudden (Fort Washington, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph
Academy) added 12 digs, sophomore outside hitter
Lizzy
Zimmermann (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) had nine
kills and sophomore middle hitter Rachael Cisto (Oxford, Conn./Sacred Heart
Academy) had six kills, six blocks and three service
aces.
Freshman setter Brittany
Cafiero (Merrick, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) also had
32 assists, her second-highest total of the season.
Crilly now has 1,163 career kills, leaving her just 50 away from
moving into the top four in Scranton history. She also now has
1,139 career digs, moving her into 13th in school history.
The Royals will wrap up regular season play on Saturday, Nov. 2,
when they travel to Annville, Pa. to take on Lebanon Valley and
Gallaudet. The Royals will host Moravian on Tuesday, Nov. 5, in a
Landmark Conference semifinal at 7 p.m. in the Long Center.
