BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Junior goalkeeper Krista Mundy (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex) made six saves and three different Royals scored goals as The University of Scranton field hockey team defeated Moravian, 3-0, in a Landmark Conference match on Wednesday afternoon at Rocco Calvo Field.

Scranton (10-1, 2-1 Landmark) received goals from freshman forward Jessica Gibson (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin), sophomore forward Alyssa Whitman (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) and junior midfielder Alyssa Fania (Annandale, N.J./North Hunterdon) in the victory.

Mundy's six saves were her second most of the season, one short of her season-high against Juniata on Saturday, Sept. 28. The shutout was her second of the season and seventh of her career.

Gibson gave the Royals a 1-0 lead when she scored in the 29th minute. The Royals drew a penalty corner and had a good look at the cage when a Moravian defender made a defensive save. But Gibson was right there, tapping in the rebound for her first career goal.

Scranton carried that lead into halftime before Whitman doubled it with a goal in the 41st minute. Senior Jessica Conroy (Havertown, Pa./Merion Mercy Academy) received the ball at the start of a penalty corner and found Whitman at the far post, where she tapped the ball in for her fourth goal of the season.

Fania sealed the victory with 1:34 remaining when her long shot deflected off a defender and in for her eighth goal of the season and 19th of her career. Her eight goals this season are the most on the team.

Sophomore defender Jessica Pankey (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes) had a defensive save for Scranton, the second of her career.

The victory clinched the Royals' third straight season of 10 or more victories. It was also their second straight win over Moravian (8-5, 1-2 Landmark) and improved them to 16-5 all-time against the Greyhounds.

Scranton held an 18-10 advantage in shots, including 13-1 in the first half. The Royals also had 15 penalty corners to just four for the Greyhounds.

The Royals are back in action on Sunday when they travel to Aurora, N.Y. to take on Wells College at 1 p.m.
