CORTLAND, NY—Cortland State University handed The University
of Scranton volleyball team its third straight setback, 3-0,
Tuesday evening.
Senior captain and middle hitter Ava Hintz (East Aurora, NY//East
Aurora) inflicted most of the damage for the Red Dragons, now 4-5,
with 10 kills, two digs, and two total blocks and sophomore outside
hitter Kim Givelechian (Roslyn Heights, NY/Herricks) and freshman
outside hitter Samantha Czeczotka (Elwood, NY/John H. Glenn)
combined for 14 kills and 23 digs.
The Royals, now 3-6, never got untracked offensively, committing
more hitting errors than kills while posting a negative hitting
percentage in two of the three sets.
Junior outside hitter Julia Crilly (Rochester, NY/Aquinas Institute)
led Scranton with seven kills and five digs, sophomore
liberoKimberly Marino (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris
Central) recorded 10 digs, and freshman setter Brittany Cafiero (Merrick, NY/Kellenberg
Memorial) finished with nine assists and eight digs.
Despite the loss, Scranton fought back from early deficits in each
set, but the Red Dragons answered each run to pull away for the
victory.
The Royals will return to action this Friday, September 13, at the
Neumann Invitational in Aston, Pennsylvania. Scranton will
take on Richard Stockton College (NJ) at 6:00 p.m. and Widener
University at 8:00 p.m.
