ASTON, Pa.—The University of Scranton volleyball team
dropped a pair of matches Friday evening in the opening round of
the Neumann Invitational.
The Royals, now 3-8, received 12 kills and seven digs from junior
outside hitter Julia Crilly (Rochester, NY/Aquinas Institute)
and 30 assists from freshman setter Brittany Cafiero (Merrick, NY/Kellenberg
Memorial), but it wasn’t enough to hold off Richard
Stockton, 3-1, in their first match.
Sophomore middle hitter Rachael Cisto (Oxford, Conn./Sacred Heart
Academy) contributed seven kills and two blocks and
freshman libero Victoria Reilly (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore)
finished with 10 digs.
In a 3-1 loss to Widener University in the nightcap, Crilly
recorded a season-high 23 kills and added 13 digs to record her
sixth ‘double-double’ of the season. In addition,
she moved into 10th place in kills all-time in Scranton history
with 931.
The Royals also received six kills and 14 digs from senior
Michaela McCrudden (Fort Washington, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph
Academy), 20 digs from Reilly, 31 assists from freshman
setter Bailey Woods (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven),
and four blocks from senior Kelly
Johnson (Pearl River, NY/Pearl River).
Johnson now has 195 total blocks in her career, which is currently
tied for 13th on the Royals’ all-time list.
Scranton will return to action tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
against Bryn Mawr and Neumann at 3:00 p.m.
