ASTON, Pa.—Junior outside hitter Julia Crilly (Rochester, NY/Aquinas Institute)
recorded 25 kills today to help The University of Scranton
volleyball team salvage a split in the final day of competition at
the Neumann Invitational
Crilly finished with 10 kills, three digs, and two blocks as the
Royals snapped a five-match losing streak with a 3-0 victory over
Bryn Mawr College in their first match today. She wrapped up
the tournament with 15 kills and 13 digs—her seventh
‘double-double’ of the season and the 39th of her
career—as Scranton dropped a 3-1 decision to Neumann.
Crilly recorded 60 kills and 36 digs in four matches this weekend
to earn all-tourney honors, marking the third consecutive weekend
that she has been named to an all-tournament team.
In the win over Bryn Mawr, senior outside hitter Michaela McCrudden (Fort Washington, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph
Academy) contributed six kills, two service aces, four
digs and a block and freshman Brittany Cafiero (Merrick, NY/Kellenberg
Memorial) and sophomore Katherine Flanagan (Hatboro, Pa./Archbishop
Wood) split the setting duties and combined for 27 of the
Royals’ 30 assists.
Against Neumann, McCrudden had also solid effort, recording five
kills, three service aces and 13 digs and freshman Bailey Woods (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven)
finished with 32 assists and eight digs. The Royals also
received five blocks from senior Kelly Johnson (Pearl River,
NY/Pearl River) and three from sophomore Stephanie Klug (Mountain Top,
Pa./Crestwood).
Scranton, now 4-9, will return to action this Tuesday, September
17, against Oneonta St. in Oneonta, New York, at 7:00 p.m.
Crilly’s 25 kills today moves her into ninth-place on the
Royals’ all-time list with 956.
