ROCHESTER, NY—The University of Scranton volleyball team
split a pair of matches in the opening round of the Golden Flyer
Invitational on the campus of Nazareth College Friday evening.
The Royals bounced back from a 3-0 defeat to Fredonia State in
their opening match by downing Hartwick College, 3-0, to even their
overall record at 3-3 on the season.
Against Fredonia St., junior outside hitter Julia Crilly (Rochester, NY/Aquinas Institute)
led the Royals with 10 kills and 14 digs and sophomore right-side
hitter Stephanie Klug (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood)
had five kills and two total blocks.
Crilly came back with another ‘double-double’ in the
win over Hartwick, recording 11 kills and 11 digs to bring her
season total to four and 36 for her career. Scranton also
received 18 assists from freshman setter Brittany Cafiero (Merrick, NY/Kellenberg
Memorial) and six kills and five blocks from sophomore
middle hitter Molly Loftus (Mt. Carmel, Pa./Our Lady of
Lourdes). Freshman libero Victoria Reilly (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) came
up with 10 digs for Scranton, which will take on Mt. Union (Ohio)
tomorrow at 12 noon.
