ROCHESTER, NY—The University of Scranton volleyball team
dropped its final two matches in the Golden Flyer Invitational
today at Nazareth College.
The Royals suffered a 3-0 setback to Mt. Union (Ohio) and fought
back valiantly from an 0-2 deficit before dropping a 3-2 decision
to SUNY-Geneseo.
For the second straight weekend, Royal junior outside hitter
Julia Crilly (Rochester, NY/Aquinas
Institute) picked up all-tournament honor, recording a
season-high 22 kills and 11 digs against Geneseo. Her five
‘double-doubles’ in kills and digs this year brings her
career total to 37.
Freshman setter Brittany Cafiero (Merrick, NY/Kellenberg
Memorial) also had a big day for the Royals, registering a
season-high 43 assists and four service aces against Geneseo.
Freshman libero Victoria Reilly (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) and
sophomore defensive specialist Kimberly Marino (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris
Central) finished with 25 and 18 digs, respectively,
against Geneseo.
Crilly’s 33 kills today moves her into 13th place on the
Royals’ all-time list with 889.
Scranton will return to action this Tuesday, September 10, against
SUNY Cortland in Cortland, New York, at 7:00 p.m.
