TOWSON, Md.—Sophomore midfielder Elizabeth Yorey (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) scored twice within a four-minute span late in the second half to lift The University of Scranton field hockey team to a 2-1 victory over Goucher College in Landmark Conference action Saturday afternoon.

The win was the 100th for veteran Royal head coach Colleen Moyer and improves Scranton to 10-2 overall and 2-1 in the Landmark Conference.  Goucher, which took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Lizzie Barminski early in the second half, fell to 7-4 overall and 1-2 in the league.

The Royals held a commanding 13-4 advantage in shots and a 12-5 margin in penalty corners, but weren’t able to get on to the scoreboard until the 51st minute when Yorey scored an unassisted goal.  Moments later, Yorey scored the game-winner after receiving a pass from junior Alyssa Whitman (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley), who picked up her first assist of the season.

Defensively, Scranton’s backline of seniors Michelle Lennon (South Walpole, Mass./Walpole), Jessica Pankey (Pompton Lakes, NJ/Pompton Lakes), and Bridget Brady (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph Academy) allowed only two shots on goal, one of which was saved by senior goalkeeper Krista Mundy (North Caldwell, NJ/West Essex).  Mundy is now 8-1 in goal on the season.

Moyer, who took over the program at Scranton in 2005 after a highly successful playing career in field hockey and softball at Drew University, is now 100-82 (.549) in 10 seasons.  She is second in coaching victories in Royals’ history behind Beth Howlett, who led Scranton to 153 wins in two stints as head coach (1980-1990, 1994-1997).

With today’s victory, the Royals have also reached the 10-win plateau for the fourth straight season.  It was also the second straight and fourth in the last five games for Scranton, which returns to action Wednesday, October 15, against Drew University in Madison, New Jersey, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
