KINGS POINT, NY—The University of Scranton volleyball team
entered today’s final day of competition in the Landmark
Conference with an opportunity to secure a home match in the
conference’s upcoming postseason tournament.
Instead, the Royals will open the playoffs on the road after
dropping a 3-0 decision to Susquehanna University and suffering a
3-1 setback to 7-time defending champion Juniata College.
Scranton, now 19-9 overall and 5-2 in the conference, is now the
number three seed and will take on Susquehanna in Selinsgrove in a
semifinal match on Tuesday, November 4. Juniata will host
Moravian in the other semifinal match.
In the loss to Susquehanna, juniors Stephanie Klug (Mountain Top,
Pa./Crestwood), Lizzy Zimmermann (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) and Rachael Cisto (Oxford, Conn./Sacred Heart
Academy) combined for 19 of the Royals’ 25
kills and sophomore libero Danielle Cafiero (Merrick, NY/Kellenberg
Memorial) finished with 15 digs.
SeniorJulia Crilly (Rochester, NY/Aquinas
Institute) led the way against Juniata, finishing
with 10 kills and nine digs, and sophomore setter Brittany Cafiero (Merrick, NY/Kellenberg
Memorial) had 24 assists.
The Royals will return to action this Tuesday, October 21, against
Penn St.-Berks in Reading, Pennsylvania, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
