DALLAS, Pa.—Senior outside hitter Julia Crilly (Rochester, NY/Aquinas Institute) had 10 kills and 14 digs and junior middle hitter Stephanie Klug (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) finished with nine kills and five total points to lead The University of Scranton volleyball to its sixth straight win, a 3-1 decision over Misericordia University Thursday evening at the Anderson Center.
Sophomore setterBrittany Cafiero (Merrick, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) added 31 assists and 11 digs and junior middle hitter Rachael Cisto (Oxford, Conn./Sacred Heart Academy) and freshman Morgan Rentzheimer (Laurys Station, Pa./Parkland) combined for 11 kills and six digs as the Royals improved to 19-7, one win shy of reaching 20 wins in a season for the first time since 2012.
With the match tied 1-1, Scranton pulled away by hitting .261 in the third set and .161 in the fourth while the Cougars, now 12-13, hit -.059 in the third and .069 in the fourth.
Junior outside hitter Lizzy Zimmermann (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) recorded a match-high five service aces for the Royals, who will return to action a week from Saturday against Juniata College and Susquehanna University in Landmark Conference action at the Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York. Scranton can finish anywhere from first to third place in the league standings depending on the outcome of those two matches.
With five blocks tonight, Klug now has 148 in her career, which is 16th on the Royals’ all-time list, while Crilly’s ‘double-double’ in kills and digs was her 17th of the season and the 66th of her career.
