WASHINGTON, D.C.—In its final tune-up before Tuesday’s
Landmark Conference tournament, The University of Scranton
volleyball team split a pair of matches today in the nation’s
capital.
The Royals lost to Lebanon Valley, 3-0, but bounced back to defeat
Gallaudet University, 3-1. Scranton is now 23-10 on the
season.
Senior outside hitter Julia Crilly (Rochester, NY/Aquinas
Institute) recorded 25 kills today, including 16 in
the win over Gallaudet, to move within 10 of Anne McGovern’s
(1996-1999) University of Scranton all-time record of 1650. She
also finished with 19 digs.
Against Gallaudet, the Royals got a big lift from junior middle
hitter Stephanie Klug (Mountain Top,
Pa./Crestwood), who had 11 kills and seven total
blocks, and sophomore libero Danielle Cafiero (Merrick, NY/Kellenberg
Memorial) and juniorLizzy Zimmermann (Livingston,
NJ/Livingston) combined for 26 digs. Klug also
recorded five total blocks against Lebanon Valley
Freshman Morgan Rentzheimer (Laurys Station,
Pa./Parkland) took over the setting duties today and
recorded 18 against Lebanon Valley and 40 against Gallaudet.
The Royals will take on Susquehanna University in the semifinals of
the Landmark tournament at Houts Gymnasium in Selinsgrove,
Pennsylvania, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
