ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The University of Scranton field hockey team was shut out for the first time all season on Saturday, dropping a 2-0 decision at Elizabethtown in the regular season finale at Wolf Field.

The loss drops the Royals (13-5, 4-3 Landmark) to the No. 4 seed in the Landmark Conference playoffs after they had a chance to earn the No. 2 seed with a victory. They'll travel to top-seeded Catholic for a semifinal matchup on Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 7 p.m.

Elizabethtown (11-6, 5-2 Landmark) scored twice in the opening 23 minutes to take control, then kept the potent Royals' offense off the scoreboard the rest of the way. Scranton entered the contest with a school-record 63 goals on the season for an average of 3.79 per game, which ranked 18th in the nation.

The Royals held an 8-5 advantage in shots, led by four from senior midfielder Alyssa Fania (Annandale, N.J./North Hunterdon). But Elizabethtown senior goalkeeper Selene Jones (Topton, Pa./Brandywine Heights) made six saves in the shutout.

Scranton also had an 8-1 edge in penalty corners.

The Royals will now take on Catholic in that Landmark Conference semifinal on Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 7 p.m. in Washington, D.C. In the regular season matchup, the Cardinals scored a come-from-behind 2-1 victory at Fitzpatrick Field on Saturday, Oct. 18.
