SCRANTON, Pa.—University of Scranton men's basketball coach Carl Danzig decided to start all five seniors in the Royals' Landmark Conference regular-season finale against Goucher College Saturday afternoon at the Long Center.

It turned out to be a decision he'll never regret.

Senior Michael Barr (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) tied his career-high with 17 points and senior forward Jason Pierce (Scranton, Pa./Lackawanna College/Conestoga) finished with a career-high 14 points and eight rebounds as the Royals broke away from a 5-point halftime lead en route to a 93-76 victory.

The victory was the 12th straight for Scranton—tying the program's longest winning streak under Danzig—now 22-3 overall and 12-2 in the conference.  

Junior guard Ross Danzig (Clarks Green, Pa./Abington Heights/Blair Academy) made 9 of 14 shots from the field to finish with 22 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists, sophomore forward Brendan Boken (South Pasadena, Calif./Loyola) chipped in 15 points and 10 rebounds, and senior guard Tommy Morgan (Greenlawn, NY/Chaminade) had 10 points, eight rebounds, and six assists for the Royals, who shot nearly 55 percent from the field in the second half and 52.9 percent for the game.

Sophomore forward Julian Livingston (Bowie, Md./Fairmont Heights) led the Gophers, which put the wraps on a 10-15 season that included a 5-9 mark in the Landmark, with 29 points, eight rebounds, and five assists.  After shooting 50 percent in the first half, Goucher went cold in the second stanza, shooting just under 35 percent from the field.

The Royals broke it open midway through the second half with an 11-3 run during a three-minute spurt that turned a 63-56 lead into a 15-point margin, 74-59, with 9:11 remaining.  Scranton's lead eventually grew to 24 points twice in the final 6:16 of play.

Junior guard Justin Klingman (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) scored all nine of his points in the second half, connecting on 3 of 5 shots from the field, including 3 of 4 from beyond the 3-point arc.  For the game, Scranton made 11 of 22 3-point field goal attempts (50 percent).

Danzig's 22 points today gives him 506 for the year, becoming the first Royal since Zach Ashworth (542) in 2011 to score more than 500 in a season.

Barr, who scored 11 first-half points, tied his highest scoring output for the fourth time in his career while Pierce eclipsed his previous career high of 13 against Goucher at the Long Center on January 12, 2013.  Fellow seniors Kyle Ranck (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) and Mike Marchman (Blauvelt, NY/St. Joseph Regional) also started today and contributed to the Royal victory.  

Ranck played 12 minutes and had two points, a rebound and a steal while Marchman handed out five assists and pulled down two rebounds in 15 minutes.

Morgan's 10 points inches him closer to a personal milestone, giving him 990 in his career.  He is now 10 shy of becoming the 41st player in Royals history to score 1000 points.

The Royals' 12 wins in conference play are the most in Carl Danzig's 13-year tenure as head coach and the most for the program since 1991.

Scranton will enter Wednesday's Landmark Conference tournament as the number one seed and will host the number four seed at 5:30 p.m. in the Long Center.  All students, faculty, and staff from any of the eight Landmark Conference institutions will be admitted free with a valid ID.  Tickets for the general public are $5.00 for adults (18-61) and $3.00 for non-Landmark Conference students (ages 8-17) and senior citizens (ages 62 and older).  All children, seven and under accompanied by an adult, will be admitted free.
