WASHINGTON, DC—The University of Scranton baseball team
battled back from two late inning deficits before Catholic
University held on for a 10-9 victory in the finale of a three-game
Landmark Conference series Sunday at Talbot Field.
The Royals sliced an 8-3 deficit down to one with a four-run rally
in the seventh inning and stranded the tying run at third-base
during a two-run rally in the ninth. The loss drops Scranton
to 4-5 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
With the win, the Cardinals improved to 9-5 overall and 2-1 in the
Landmark.
Senior Mike Trabulsi (Malverne, NY/Chaminade) led the
Royals with four hits, scored three times, and drove in a run and
junior Ross Danzig (Clarks Green, Pa./Abington
Heights/Blair Academy-NJ) and freshman Patrick O’Dell (Phoenixville, Pa./St.
Joseph’s Preparatory) had three hits apiece.
O’Dell also smacked a pair of doubles and drove in three
runs for Scranton, which will host Marywood University this
Tuesday, March 18, at 3:30 p.m. at Connell Park, weather
permitting.
Senior Marc Hanna (Bloomfield, NJ/St. Peter’s Preparatory)
led Catholic with two hits and drove in three runs and freshman
Brent Padula (Oakton, Va./Oakton) and Paul Burmester (Columbia,
Md./Atholton) and sophomores John Palladino (Rockville Centre,
NY/Kellenberg Memorial) and Andrew Stewart (Manasquan,
NJ/Manasquan) finished with two hits apiece.
