JESSUP, Pa. – Senior right fielder Caitlin
McHenry (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) had three
hits and drove in four runs to lead The University of Scranton
softball team to a 17-9 victory over Juniata College in the first
game of a doubleheader on Saturday at the Jessup Youth Sports
Complex. Juniata rallied to win the second game, 7-5.
McHenry singled, doubled and ripped a two-run home run, then was
honored in between games as the Royals lone senior on Senior Day.
Her blast got the Royals (6-13, 2-4 Landmark) started in a four-run
fifth inning that put the game away.
Scranton also received three hits, four runs and an RBI from
freshman shortstop Shannon
Stricker (Morrisville, Pa./Conwell Egan), two singles,
a double, two runs and two RBIs from freshman third baseman
Marisa
Ciriello (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) and two
singles, a double, two runs and an RBI from junior second baseman
Stephanie
Romano (Oak Ridge, N.J./West Milford).
Freshman first baseman Kaitlin
O'Sullivan (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth Academy) added a
two-run home run in a seven run second inning.
In the second game, Scranton took a 5-3 lead with four runs in
the bottom of the sixth, but Juniata (4-21, 1-5 Landmark) scored
four times in the top of the seventh to take the victory.
Scranton received three hits, two RBIs and a run from freshman
left fielder Christine
Kiefer (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh), three hits from
freshman catcher Jacqueline
DeSarro (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) and two
hits, a run and an RBI from freshman designated player Angelica
Titor (Bellerose Village, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial).
Freshman third baseman Jamie
SanFilippo (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan Wagner) came off
the bench to deliver and RBI single and score a run.
The Royals are back in action on Sunday when they travel to
Selinsgrove for a Landmark Conference doubleheader against
Susquehanna beginning at 1 p.m.
