SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The University of Scranton softball team ran into strong pitching on the road Sunday and wound up dropping a pair to Landmark Conference foe Susquehanna, 8-0 and 7-3, at Sassafras Field.

Scranton (6-15, 2-6) had just one hit while losing the opener in eight innings. Freshman shortstop Shannon Stricker (Morrisville, Pa./Conwell Egan) singled to lead off the fourth for the Royals' only hit. Susquehanna (17-11, 8-0 Landmark) scored two in the second, one each in the third and fourth, and put the game away with four in the fifth.

In the second game, Susquehanna took an early lead with three runs in the second. But Scranton knotted the score with three runs in the top of the fifth on a three-run double by junior center fielder Gabrielle Santarelli (Peckville, Pa./Valley View)

But the Crusaders answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and two more in the sixth to secure the win.

Junior second baseman Stephanie Romano (Oak Ridge, N.J./West Milford) singled and doubled for Scranton in the second game.

The Royals are back in action on Tuesday, April 15, when they host Keystone College at 4 p.m. at the Jessup Youth Sports Complex. The Royals will hold their StriKeOut Cancer fundraiser during the doubleheader, collecting donations for the American Cancer Society.
