SCRANTON, Pa.—Turnabout was fair play for The University of Scranton and Marywood University in a non-conference softball doubleheader today at Pacer Field.

After Marywood belted out 11 hits in winning the first game, 12-4, in six innings, the Royals came back to take the nightcap, also by the score of 12-4, behind a 3-hit, 5-RBI performance by freshman Angelica Titor (Bellrose Village, NY/Floral Park Memorial).

Marywood broke open the first game with a five-run rally in the third inning to extend a 2-1 lead into a 7-1 cushion.  Sophomore Stephanie Bagniewski (Cranford, NJ/Cranford) and senior Chelsea Zimmerman (Reading, Pa./Reading Central Catholic) combined for four hits and four RBI and senior Samantha Rayhon (Glen Gardner, NJ/North Hunterdon) and sophomore Kathleen Rossi (Jessup, Pa./Valley View) each belted a triple.

Freshman pitcher Lindsey Gibbs (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower Catholic High School for Girls) went four innings and struck out five batters to pick up the win on the mound.  She is now 8-3 on the season.

Senior Caitlin McHenry (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) finished with two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs and junior Karey Fortier (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) smacked a double for Scranton.

In the nightcap, the Royals exploded for five runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth to break a 3-3 tie.

In addition to Titor, Scranton also received three hits apiece from freshmen Shannon Stricker (Morrisville, Pa./Conwell Egan) and Kaitlin O’Sullivan (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth Academy) and two apiece from junior Stephanie Romano (Oak Ridge, NJ/West Milford), McHenry, and freshman Jenna Snyder (Thornwood, NY/Westlake).

Sophomore Alison Kucharski (Hampton, NJ/North Hunterdon) picked up the win on the mound to improve to 3-6.  She struck out two, scattered 11 hits, and allowed only three earned runs.

Junior Diana Butash (Throop, Pa./Mid Valley) led the Pacers in the second game with four hits, including a double and a triple, and freshman Brooke Labs (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) and Bagniewski chipped in two hits apiece.

McHenry’s four hits today gives her 97 for her career.

Marywood is now 15-9 on the season while Scranton is 7-16.

Weather-permitting, the Royals will return to action tomorrow afternoon against Moravian College in a Landmark Conference doubleheader beginning at 4:00 p.m. at the Jessup Youth Sports Complex.
