MADISON, N.J. – Drew University scored eight runs in the fifth inning, all with two outs, to complete a three-game-sweep against The University of Scranton baseball team with a 9-5 victory at Doc Young Field on Sunday afternoon.
Scranton (9-20, 4-14 Landmark) held a 5-1 lead going into the bottom of the fifth, but the Rangers (17-19, 10-8 Landmark) got the first two runners on. The next two batters popped out, but Drew banged out five hits to go along with a walk and a hit batter to score eight times with two outs to take a 9-5 lead.
The Royals jumped ahead right from the start, scoring three times in the top of the first. Senior third baseman Mike Trabulsi (Malverne, N.Y./Chaminade) had an RBI single and senior designated hitter Eric Pizzico (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) had a two-out, two-run double to cap the inning.
After Drew got a run back in the bottom of the first, Scranton plated two more in the third to take a 5-1 lead. Sophomore right fielder Brian Healy (Middletown, N.J./Middletown South) drove in Trabulsi with a triple, then scored on a wild pitch two batters later.
Trabulsi finished with two hits, an RBI and a run scored, Healy tripled, drove in a run and scored twice, and senior second baseman Matt Maghini (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) added a hit in the loss.
Scranton returns to action on Monday when the Royals travel to Dallas, Pa. to take on Misericordia at 4 p.m.
