GLENSIDE, Pa.—The University of Scranton field hockey team
bid to establish the best start in school history fell short
Saturday evening
After building up a 3-0 halftime lead, the Royals ran out of gas
and dropped a 4-3 decision in overtime to Arcadia University.
Senior Alyssa Fania (Annandale, NJ/North
Hunterdon) led Scranton, now 6-1, with two goals and
junior Krista
Osborne (Blue Bell, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy) added the
other. Senior Cassie
Mullen (Chester Springs, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) was
also credited with an assist.
The Royals held a commanding 14-2 advantage in shots in the first
half, but were held to four in the final 38 minutes of play. The
Knights, on the other hand, got off 14 shots in the second half and
overtime.
Arcadia, now 6-2, pulled it out on a goal by Molly Goldstein on a
play set up by Tess Brzezynski three minutes into the overtime
period. Katrina Dull, Rachel Longenecker and Taylor Dalisera
each added a goal for the Knights.
This year's team joins the 2013 and 1998 teams to open a season
6-0 in Scranton history.
The Royals will host Susquehanna University in their Landmark
Conference opener next Saturday, September 27, beginning at 1:00
p.m. at Fitzpatrick Field.
