WASHINGTON, DC—Senior Julia Crilly (Rochester, NY/Aquinas Institute) reached a personal milestone this evening in leading The University of Scranton to a sweep of Goucher College, 3-0, and Catholic University, 3-1, in Landmark Conference action.

Crilly finished with 35 kills today to become only the third player in Scranton history to record at least 1,500 in a career, joining all-time leader Anne McGovern (1,650, 1996-1999) and Marta DeLong (1,510, 2001-2004).

With today’s win, Scranton improves to 15-7 overall and 3-0 in the Landmark Conference, its best start in conference play since 2008.

Crilly and junior Stephanie Klug (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) combined for 28 of the Royals’ 43 kills in this afternoon’s win over Goucher.  The Royals, who also received 35 assists and six digs from sophomore Brittany Cafiero (Merrick, NY/Kellenberg Memorial), hit .200 in the first set, .371 in the second, and .194 in the third.  Scranton also dominated the net, blocking 10 balls for points, including four by Klug and two each by junior Lizzy Zimmermann (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) and Crilly.

Crilly and Zimmermann combined for 31 kills and junior Kimberly Marino (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) was brilliant on the back line, coming up with 23 digs as the Royals defeated Catholic for the first time since 2008.  The Royals once again dominated the net, finishing with 13 total blocks, including seven by junior Rachael Cisto (Oxford, Conn./Sacred Heart Academy) and four by Klug.

Crilly now has 1,509 kills in her career.

The Royals will return to action this Tuesday, September 30, against the Pacers of Marywood University beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Long Center.  The match is open to the public and admission is free.
