WASHINGTON, D.C. - The University of Scranton field hockey team dropped a 4-1 decision to host Catholic in Landmark Conference play on Saturday afternoon.
With the defeat, Scranton fell to 12-2 overall and 3-2 in the Landmark, while Catholic improved to 10-3 overall and 4-1 in Conference play.
In the first half, Catholic controlled play, scoring their first goal in the 26th minute to go up 1-0 into intermission. To start the second half, the host Cardinals put away Scranton with three consective goals, going up 4-0 on the Royals in the 54th minute.
Scranton finally got on the board in the 62nd minute, as Alyssa Whitman (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) scored her team-leading ninth goal of the season off an assist from Elizabeth Yorey (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills). But, it was too little, too late for the Royals, as Catholic walked away with a three-score victory.
The University of Scranton field hockey team returns to action on Sunday, October 25, as they travel to Moravian for another Landmark Conference match-up. Things get underway at 1 p.m.
