SCRANTON, Pa. - A first half goal by junior Henry Bonilla (Fairless Hills, Pa./Pennington School) proved to the difference, as the University of Scranton men's soccer team rode a strong defensive effort to a 1-0 victory over Moravian on Wednesday night at Fitzpatrick Field in Landmark Conference action.

With the win, the Royals improved to 7-5-2 overall and 3-1-2 in the Landmark, while Moravian fell to 7-8-1 and 2-4-1 in Conference play with the defeat.

The eventual game-winner by Bonilla came early in the contest, as the Royals started off aggressively on offense. In the 5th minute, Bonilla played a great cross in front of the net from junior Michael Bergen (Newtown, Pa./Pennington School) and fired a shot into the net to give the Royals the early one-goal edge.

For Bonilla, it was his third goal of the year, each of which has been an eventual game-winner. Meanwhile, Bergen collected his fourth assist of the season on the play.

For the remainder of the first half, Scranton controlled play, outshooting Moravian 4-1 in the first 45 minutes to go into intermission up 1-0. Early in the second half, however, the visiting Greyhounds turned up the heat on offense and appeared to have scored the equalizer early in the period. But, Moravian was called offsides on the play, nullifying the score.

From there, the Scranton defense clamped down for the rest of regulation, allowing just three shots total in the half. With that, the Royals walked away with a tough one-score victory to collect their third win of the year in Landmark Conference play.

Overall, Scranton outshot Moravian by a wide 13-4 margin in the win. In net, junior Eric Hintz (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor) preserved the victory in the second half, making two saves to keep the Greyhounds off the scoreboard to collect his fourth shutout win of the year.

The University of Scranton men's soccer team will return to the pitch on Saturday, taking on Merchant Marine in their final home contest of the 2015 regular season. The Landmark Conference tilt, which will also be the program's annual Senior Day, kicks off at 1 p.m.
