The University of Scranton women's soccer team could not solve a packed in Moravian College defense on Saturday, settling for a 0-0 draw at Fitzpatrick Field on Senior Day.
The draw drops Scranton (11-3-2, 4-1-1 Landmark) into third place in the Landmark Conference with one match remaining. The Royals, who have clinched a playoff berth, can secure the no. 2 seed by defeating second-place Elizabethtown on the road next weekend.
The Royals struggled to put together any solid scoring chances against a Moravian defense that often had six or seven players back to slow the Scranton attack. The Royals held a 10-1 edge in shots over the Greyhounds (4-8-2, 2-3-1 Landmark) and an 8-0 edge in corner kicks.
Scranton received solid games from the backline of senior Jasmine Sconciafurno (Woodland Park, N.J./Passaic Valley), juniors Carolyn Warner (Morris Plains, N.J./Parsippany Hills) and Jessica DePinho (Morganville, N.J./Red Bank Catholic), and sophomore Katie Cullen (Malvern, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy).
Prior to the match, the Royals honored eight seniors – Sconciafurno, Erin Allen (Syosset, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy Academy), Sarah Andrews (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood), Michaela Arbus (Pequannock, N.J./DePaul Catholic), Erin Casey (Hatfield, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy Academy), Megan Manzo (Shelton, Conn./Shelton), Michelle Post (Colts Neck, N.J./Colts Neck) and Gianna Vitolo (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls).
The Royals will complete their regular season when they travel to Elizabethtown, Pa. on Saturday, Oct. 31, to take on Elizabethtown at 3:30 p.m.
