ASTON, Pa. - The University of Scranton Volleyball team opened play for the weekend at the Knights Fall Classic on the campus of Neumann College on Friday night, and the Royals split a pair of matches against the host Knights (a 3-1 win), while falling to Roanoke (in five sets).

With the results, Scranton moved to 18-7 overall on the season.

Scranton 3, Neumann 1 (25-20, 27-25, 23-25, 25-19)

The Royals opened the Knights Fall Classic by taking on host Neumann, and Scranton collected their 18th win of the season (and sixth of their last seventh overall) in four sets, riding the momentum of a tie-break victory in the second set to another out-of-conference win.

Overall, Scranton was led on the attack in the win by senior Stephanie Klug (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood), who posted eight kills, while fellow senior Lizzy Zimmermann (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) added seven kills, 10 digs, and three block-assists.

Junior setter Bailey Woods (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) had a big match, recording 29 assists and 13 digs. Elsewhere, senior Rachael Cisto (Oxford, Conn./Sacred Heart Academy) posted four service aces to round out the top performers in the win for the Royals.

Roanoke 3, Scranton 2 (15-25, 20-25, 25-15. 25-19, 10-15)

In their second match of the night, the Royals almost pulled off a big comeback against Roanoke, taking back-to-back sets after falling behind 2-0.

But, Roanoke was able to collect themselves in the fifth set and win by five points, escaping with a victory over the Royals in the process.

Overall in the Roanoke match, freshman Kristin Kirwan (Park Ridge, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) was dominant on the Royal attack, slamming home 21 kills, a season-best for her. She also recorded 10 digs and two block-assists on the evening, as well.

Meanwhile. Zimmermann and Klug added 10 kills, apiece, to round out a pair of strong matches for the seniors. Elsewhere, junior setter Brittany Cafiero (Merrick, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) matched a career-high with 51 assists, and senior libero Kim Marino (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) collected a team-high 26 digs, as well.

The Royals will wrap up play at the Knights Fall Classic tomorrow, as the team will play St. Mary's (Md.) at noon, then Mount St. Vincent at 2 p.m.
