CLERMONT, Fla.—Sophomore shortstop Shannon Stricker (Morrisville, Pa./Conwell Egan) continues to wield a hot bat for The University of Scranton softball team.
Stricker belted out four more hits today and drove in two runs to help the Royals split a pair of non-conference games today. She had two hits, including an RBI double, in a 3-2 loss to Oswego State this morning, then belted out two more hits, drove in a run, and scored twice as Scranton downed Lancaster Bible, 11-3, in five innings. Stricker has now hit safely in each of the Royals’ first four games this year and 11 straight dating back to last season.
Freshman pitcher Morgan Rentzheimer (Laurys Station, Pa./Parkland) turned in another solid gem, striking out six, walking only one, and scattering seven hits despite taking the loss against Oswego St. Besides Stricker, the Royals also got two hits apiece from senior Stephanie Romano (Oak Ridge, NJ/West Milford) and sophomore Jacqueline DeSarro (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic).
In the win over Lancaster Bible, sophomore Kaitlin O’Sullivan (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth Academy) had two hits and three RBI, freshman Kaitlyn Brogan (Oreland, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) singled twice and drove in two runs, and sophomoreAngelica Titor (Bellerose Village, NY/Floral Park Memorial) finished with two hits, an RBI, and scored twice.
DeSarro drove in a pair of runs and sophomoreJenna Snyder (Thornwood, NY/Westlake) had a hit and scored three times for Scranton, which jumped out to a 7-0 lead after three innings and broke the game open with a 4-run rally in the fifth.
The Royals will take on FDU-Florham and Calvin College (Mich.) tomorrow at 1 and 3:00 p.m., respectively.
