BETHLEHEM, Pa.—The University of Scranton baseball team managed only six hits in dropping a 6-2 decision to Moravian College in the final game of a three-game Landmark Conference series Wednesday afternoon at Gillespie Field.

Senior Zach Dignam (Bridgewater, NJ/Immaculata) had three hits, including a double, and freshman Tommy Trotter (Cranford, NJ/Cranford) added pair for the Royals, who fell to 3-7 overall and 2-1 in the Landmark.  With the win, Moravian improved to 4-6 overall and 1-5 in the conference.

Dignam drove in run in the third inning with a single to give Scranton a 1-0 lead, but the Greyhounds answered with a run in the bottom half of the frame and took the lead for good with two more in the fourth.

Dignam opened the eighth inning with a double and came around to score to slice the lead to two, but Moravian scored twice in the bottom half to set the final score.  Junior Charles Savite (Hackettstown, NJ/West Morris Central) and senior Ryan Luke (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg) led Moravian with three hits apiece and seniors Colin Case (Easton, Pa./Easton) and Matt Hanson (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) contributed two each.

Savite hit his third home run of the season, a solo shot in the fifth inning.

Freshman pitcher Nicholas Mazzella (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) scattered four hits and struck out two over seven innings in picking up the win for Moravian.  He is now 2-1 on the year.

Dignam, whose 3-hit performance today was a season-high, has now hit safely in each of his last five games. Trotter also extended his hitting streak to nine games today and is now batting .444 (16-for-36) for Scranton, which will return to Landmark Conference action this Saturday, March 28, against Catholic University at the Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy in Washington, DC, beginning at 5:30 p.m.  Sunday’s 7-inning doubleheader will start at 11:00 a.m.
