Baseball Drops Series Opener At Catholic, 7-1

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of Scranton baseball team was unable to find any offensive spark on Saturday, dropping the opener of the Landmark Conference series at Catholic, 7-1, at the Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Complex.

The Royals (3-8, 2-2 Landmark) managed just two hits in the loss. Senior first baseman Ross Danzig (Clarks Green, Pa./Abington Heights/Blair Academy, N.J.) singled and scored a run, and freshman third baseman Patrick Mergel (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) added a single.

Sophomore right-hander John Kranick (Jessup, Pa./Valley View) took the loss, allowing three runs, two earned, on five hits in six innings.

Scranton and Catholic will complete the series with a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at noon at the Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Complex.
