HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Senior right fielder Zach Dignam (Bridgewater, N.J./Immaculata) had three hits, two runs and an RBI, and sophomore shortstop Patrick O'Dell (Harleysville, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) had three hits, three RBIs and a run as The University of Scranton baseball team completed a three-game sweep of Juniata with a 17-6 victory on Sunday.
The win extends the Royals' winning streak to six and improves them to 13-11 overall and 10-5 in the Landmark Conference, tied for first place with Elizabethtown with six games remaining.
Scranton averaged 13 runs per game in the series after posting 6-4 and 16-9 victories on Saturday. On Sunday, the Royals jumped out to a 7-0 lead after the top of the fifth and put the game away with six runs in the eight. They finished the game with 20 hits, two shy of their season high.
Junior left fielder Brian Healy (Middletown, N.J./Middletown South) had a two-run double as Scranton scored four times in the fourth. Sophomore second baseman Anthony Simone (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley Senior) had an RBI single and senior designated hitter Michael Umerich (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) had an RBI ground out in the inning.
The Royals pushed the lead to 10-1 in the sixth with three runs, highlighted by a two-out, two-run single by O'Dell. In the six-run eighth, senior first baseman Ross Danzig (Clarks Green, Pa./Abington Heights/Blair Academy, N.J.) had a two-run double and sophomore Kevin Raszka (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood) came off the bench to deliver a two-run single.
Healy finished the game with a single, double, two RBIs and two runs, Danzig had a single, double, two RBIs and a run, and freshman center fielder Tommy Trotter (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) singled, doubled, scored twice, drove in a run and stole a base.
Freshman lefty Brian Markowski (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) picked up the win on the mound, allowing a run on seven hits and a walk while striking out one in five innings.
Scranton will be back in action on Monday when the Royals host Elmira (N.Y.) at 3:30 p.m. at Connell Park.
