GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's soccer team struck quickly against McDaniel on Saturday afternoon, but the Green Terror had the final say with two second-half goals to hand the Royals a 2-1 defeat in the first day of the Gettysburg Cup at Clark Field at Gettysburg College.

Scranton (1-1) needed just 73 seconds to take the lead when Kelsey Bacon (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) scored her second goal of the season on an assist off a perfect cross from senior forward Gianna Vitolo (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls).

The goal was the 16^th of Bacon's career while Vitolo picked up the 13^th assist of her career.

The Royals maintained that 1-0 lead for the remainder of the first half by outshooting McDaniel, 7-6, over the opening 45 minutes. Junior goalkeeper Krissy Welsh (Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven) made a diving stop in the 31^st minute to preserve the lead for Scranton.

That save came moments after the Royals had two good chances to double the lead, but Green Terror defenders cleared the ball off the line twice with the goalkeeper out of the play.

McDaniel (2-0) made Scranton pay, pulling even with a goal in the 72^nd minute, and then taking the lead with another tally in the 78^th minute. From there, the Green Terror held off the Royals to remain unbeaten.

Scranton finished with seven shots and one corner kick. Welsh finished with five saves in the loss.

The Royals will face the host Gettysburg on Sunday at 7 p.m. in the final day of action in the Gettysburg Cup.
