ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - A goal by senior Amanda Maresca (Matawan, N.J./St. John Vianney) at the end of regulation sent the match to overtime, but host Elizabethtown was able to bounce back in overtime, taking a 2-1 decision over the University of Scranton field hockey team on Saturday afternoon in Landmark Conference action.

With the loss, Scranton dropped to 4-6 overall and 1-1 in the Landmark. Elizabethtown improved to 5-4 overall and 2-0 in the Landmark with the victory.

In the opening period, Elizabethtown outshot Scranton 6-4, but it was a successful penalty stroke in the 32nd minute that gave the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead entering halftime. Freshman goalie Claire McAllister (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) kept the Royals in it in the period, making two saves.

McAllister made two more saves in the second half to keep E-Town off the scoreboard, but Scranton failed to convert on their only shot of the period entering the final minute.

With two seconds left, Scranton was presented their last scoring chance on a penalty corner and the Royals cashed in on the chance, as sophomore Cyan Scarduzio (Osssing, N.Y./Ossining) played a corner that was taken by Maresca back to the senior, who scored to send the match to overtime.

But, in the overtime period, Elizabethtown scored the game-winner two minutes and 31 seconds into play, giving the Blue Jays the win.

Overall, Scranton was outshot in the match, 12-6, while E-Town held a 16-6 edge on penalty corners. McAllister ended the match making five saves, as well.

The University of Scranton field hockey team returns to action on Wednesday, traveling to Albright for a non-conference match. Action gets underway at 7 p.m.
