Field Hockey Falls in Overtime on the Road to Drew, 2-1, in Landmark Conference Match

MADISON, N.J, - Drew's Audrey Carr scored two goals, including a score four minutes into the first overtime period, as the host Rangers knocked off the University of Scranton field hockey team, 2-1, in a Landmark Conference match on Wednesday night.

With the tough loss, the Royals dropped to 4-9 overall, 1-3 in the Landmark Conference. Drew improved to 3-8 and 1-2 in the Landmark with the victory.

In the opening half, Scranton was able to outshoot Drew 6-0 in the first 35 minutes, but failed to score, with four shots being saved by Drew goalie Ryann Callaghan. 

But, in the second period, the Royals finally broke the scoreless tie in the 55th minute on a goal by junior Meredith Campbell (Media, Pa./Archbishop Carroll), who scored her ninth goal of the season off an assist from sophomore Katherine McVeagh (Flourtown, Pa./Springfield Township), giving Scranton a 1-0 lead.

However, five minutes later, Carr scored her first goal (on Drew's second shot of the entire match), tying the match at 1-1. It remained tied through the end of regulation and into overtime, where Carr scored again to give the Rangers the win.

Overall, Scranton held a wide 15-3 margin, along with a 14-1 edge on penalty corners.

The Royals will look to bounce back on Saturday at Juniata. The Landmark Conference match begins at 4:30 p.m.
