READING, Pa. - A goal by sophomore Katherine McVeagh (Flourtown, Pa./Springfield Township) early in the first half gave the University of Scranton field hockey team the lead, but host Albright bounced back with a goal in each half to knock off the Royals, 2-1, on Wednesday night.
With the loss, Scranton fell to 4-7 overall on the year, while Albright improved to 8-2 with the win.
At the 10-minute mark, McVeagh scored her second goal of the year, unassisted, to give Scranton an early 1-0 edge. But, about one minute later, Albright answered the score with a goal of their own, tying the match at 1-1.
The score remained that way through intermission and until the 40th minute, when Albright scored the eventual game-winner. In the second half, the Royals offense was stymied by the Albright defense, as the Lions made four saves to preserve the win.
Overall, Albright held a slim 15-13 edge on shots in the match and a 13-9 advantage on penalty corners. In net, Scranton freshman goalie Clarie McAllister (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) made five saves to keep the Royals in the match for 70 minutes.
The University of Scranton field hockey team leaps back into Landmark Conference play on Saturday, hosting Susquehanna at Fitzpatrick Field. Things get underway at 1 p.m.
