MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Sophomore third baseman Brad Schneider (Ambler, Pa./LaSalle College H.S.) doubled, homered twice and drove in four runs, but it wasn't enough as The University of Scranton baseball team opened its trip to the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach with a 17-13 loss to Penn State-Berks on Thursday.
Scranton (1-4) banged out 15 hits and scored in seven of nine innings, but could not slow the Lions (7-1), who scored five runs in the second and fourth innings, and three each in the sixth and eighth.
Schneider finished the day going 3-for-5 with three runs scored. Scranton also received a pair of doubles, an RBI and a run from senior outfielder Zach Dignam (Bridgewater, N.J./Immaculata), a two-run double from sophomore outfielder Tommy Trotter (Cranford, N.J./Cranford), and two hits, a run and an RBI from senior catcher Tyler Ferretti (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough). Junior shortstop Patrick O'Dell (Phoenixville, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) also added two hits and an RBI.
The Royals are right back in action on Friday when they take on Swarthmore in a doubleheader at 12:30 p.m. at the Ripken Experience.
