Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. - The University of Scranton softball team opened their season on Saturday evening in Florida, and dropped a pair of games, losing to Buena Vista, 4-0, then RIT, 8-3.
After not scoring in the Buena Vista game, and falling behind 5-0 after three innings in the RIT match-up, Scranton finally got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth and fifth innings against RIT, scoring two runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to slice the RIT lead down to 5-3 after four and a half.
In the fourth, junior Jenna Snyder (Thornwood, NY/Westlake) had an RBI single that scored junior Katherine Kunak (Monroe, NY/Monroe Woodbury), while junior Kaitlin O'Sullivan (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth Academy) had an RBI on a ground out, scoring sophomore Kaitlyn Pittsman (Jefferson Township, Pa./North Pocono) to make it a 5-2 game entering the bottom of the fourth.
In the fifth, Scranton added another run, as junior Shannon Stricker (Morrisville, Pa./Conwell Egan) roped an RBI triple that scored junior Christine Kiefer (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) to make it a 5-3 game entering the bottom of the fifth inning.
But there, RIT attacked back, scoring three runs to take a five run lead entering the sixth inning. Over the final two frames, Scranton was unable to score, as RIT rolled to the five-run win in the second game of the evening for Scranton.
The University of Scranton softball team will look to bounce back on Sunday morning, as they take on Fredonia and Washington & Jefferson in Clermont. The Fredonia game is set to start at 9 a.m., while the Washington & Jefferson game will begin at 11 a.m.
