JESSUP, Pa. - The University of Scranton softball team dropped a Landmark Conference doubleheader to visiting Moravian on Saturday afternoon at the Jessup Youth Sports Complex, falling in game one, 8-5, and 11-0 (five innings) in game two.
With the losses, Scranton fell to 5-7 overall and 0-2 in the Landmark, while Moravian improved to 15-3 and 3-1 in the Landmark with the victories.
In game one, Scranton could not come back from an early 6-0 deficit in the third inning, falling by three runs.
Overall, junior Shannon Stricker (Morrisville, Pa./Conwell Egan) led the Royals in the defeat, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and a run scored. In the loss, Stricker had a two-run home run, the first homer of her season and the fifth of her career.
Elsewhere, junior Christine Kiefer (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while freshman Molly Hampsey (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) was 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored. Sophomore Kaitlyn Pittsman (Jefferson Township, Pa./North Pocono) also had a solo home run in the defeat, the first round tripper of her career.
In the pitching circle in the first game, sophomore Morgan Rentzheimer (Laurys Station, Pa./Parkland) took the loss to drop to drop to 3-4 overall.
In game two, Scranton could not get much of anything going offensively against Moravian starting pitcher Amanda Carisone, mustering just three hits in the five inning defeat.
In the pitching circle for Scranton in game two, senior Jamie Hampsey (Tunkhannock, Pa../Tunkhannock) took the loss to fall to 2-4 on the season.
The University of Scranton softball team returns to action on Wednesday, hosting Cazenovia in an non-conference doubleheader at the Jessup Youth Sports Complex. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
