DALLAS, Pa. - Junior Meredith Campbell (Media, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) scored goals in each half, while freshman goalie Tate Ackerman (Endicott, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) made eight saves in between the pipes to preserve a 2-0 victory for the University of Scranton field hockey team at Misericordia on Tuesday night.

With the victory, the Royals went to 2-2 on the year, while Misericordia dropped to 1-5 with the defeat.

In the first period, Misericordia was able to outshoot Scranton by a 5-3 margin, but it was a shot by Campbell in the 28th minute that gave the Royals the lead.

On the goal, sophomore Katherine McVeagh (Flourtown, Pa./Springfield Township) was credited with an assist, as Scranton went into intermission up 1-0 on the Cougars.

To start the second half, Misericordia came out aggressively, eventually firing six shots on net.

But, to their avail, Ackerman was there to stop each one, keeping the Cougars off the scoreboard in the process.

Campbell then put the match away with her second score of the night in the 64th minute, this time unassisted, giving the Royals a two-goal cushion they would not give up. For Campbell, it was her fourth goal of the 2016 season, as she has scored all but one of Scranton's goals on the year to date.

Overall, Misericordia outshot Scranton 14-10 in the contest, and had an 9-8 edge on penalty corners. For Ackerman, the freshman was able to record her first shutout victory in net for Scranton in the win after her eight save performance.

The University of Scranton field hockey team returns to action on Saturday, traveling to Arcadia. Things get underway at 12 p.m.
