GLENSIDE, Pa. - Sophomore Elizabeth Tolley (Brookside, N.J./West Morris Mendham) scored two goals in the first half, and freshman goalie Tate Ackerman (Endicott, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) made six saves in net to preserve the shutout, as the University of Scranton field hockey team upended Arcadia, 2-0, on Saturday on the road.
With the victory, the Royals improved to 3-2 on the year, while Arcadia fell to 0-7 overall with the loss.
In the opening stanza, Tolley got Scranton on the board three minutes into the contest, firing a shot from the top of the circle into the back of the net off an assist from senior Elizabeth Yorey (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills).
In the 16th minute, Tolley scored her second goal of the contest, this time off a dish from junior Meredith Campbell (Media, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) to give Scranton to two-goal edge.
That lead was more than enough for the Royals defense and Ackerman to work with the rest of the way. Despite Arcadia firing as many shots in the match as Scranton did (15), they were unable to get anything past Ackerman, who notched her second straight shutout in the win.
The University of Scranton field hockey team returns to action on Sunday, taking on King's at Fitzpatrick Field beginning at 12 noon.
