UNION, N.J. – The University of Scranton women's soccer team held Kean to just six shots while receiving second-half goals from sophomore midfielder Taylor Stevens (Yardley, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) and senior defender Carolyn Warner (Morris Plains, N.J./Parsippany Hills) in a season-opening 2-0 win on Friday evening. 

Scranton (1-0) held a commanding 21-6 edge in shots at the end of the game, but still found itself tied heading into the final 20 minutes. Stevens changed that in the 75^th minute when her corner kick curled into the net to break the scoreless tie. It was her first career goal after collecting four assists last season.

Warner provided the insurance goal in the 85^th minute when she collected a rebound and deposited the ball in the back of the net for her first tally of the season. She now has four career goals after collecting three last season. 

The Royals allowed just three shots in each half, and only one of them was on goal. Senior goalkeeper Krissy Welsh (Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven) made the save on that one shot on goal to pick up her 22^nd career victory and 17^th career shutout.

Stevens and midfielder Tina Akalski (Long Beach, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) lead the team with five shots each. Four other players had at least two shots as Scranton won its season opener for the third straight season. 

The Royals are back in action on Saturday when they take on Cortland State at 1 p.m. at Kean University in Union, N.J.
