The University of Scranton women's soccer team continued its dominant play, posting its fifth straight victory and sixth shutout of the season by whitewashing Wilkes, 4-0, on Tuesday evening at Fitzpatrick Field.
Scranton (7-1-1) took control early on thanks to goals from senior defender Carolyn Warner (Morris Plains, N.J./Parsippany Hills) in the 12th minute and junior midfielder Hannah DeMars (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) in the 15th minute.
The Royals also received a second-half goal from senior midfielder Kelly Egan (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) and were also the recipient of an own goal in the second half. Sophomore midfielders Taylor Stevens (Yardley, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) and Brittany Uricchio (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) had assists in the victory, as well.
Warner and DeMars picked up their third goals of the season while Egan's was her first. Stevens now has a team-high five assists while Uricchio picked up her first, but is second on the team in points with nine.
Senior goalkeeper Danielle Maurice (Farmingdale, N.Y./St. Anthony's) made two first-half saves to pick up the win. Sophomore keeper Colleen Berry (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) came on to start the second half and made one save to preserve the shutout.
The Royals held a 14-5 advantage in shots over Wilkes (1-7-0). They also had a 9-1 edge in corner kicks while improving to 27-5 all-time against the Colonels.
Scranton will be back in action on Saturday when the Royals host Elizabethtown in a Landmark Conference match beginning at 1 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Field.
