EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. – The University of Scranton field hockey team faced a tough road test on Wednesday and ultimately could not get its offense in gear, suffering a 3-0 loss to Wilkes at Schmidt Stadium.
The Colonels (7-3) jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead with goals in the 12th and 16th minutes, then added an insurance goal in the 39th minute.
Scranton (4-5) had chances to score, matching Wilkes in shots with 12 apiece. Sophomore forward Elizabeth Tolley (Brookside, N.J./West Morris Mendham) led the Royals with four shots while senior midfielder Elizabeth Yorey (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) added three. Scranton had 13 penalty corners while Wilkes had eight.
The Royals will be back action on Saturday, Oct. 1, when they hit the road to take on Elizabethtown in a Landmark Conference matchup at 1 p.m. in Elizabethtown, Pa.
