LANCASTER, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's volleyball team faced a tough road test on Wednesday at Franklin & Marshall. In the end, the Royals could not solve the Diplomats in a 3-0 defeat.
Franklin & Marshall (3-0) put the pressure on early and never relented en route to a 25-17, 25-14, 25-15 win. The Diplomats committed just 10 attack errors and had a sterling .307 hitting percentage.
Scranton (4-2) was led by sophomore middle hitter Catherine Manning (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester), who had six kills. Sophomore outside hitter Kristin Kirwan (Park Ridge, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) had five kills and eight digs, and senior libero Danielle Cafiero (Merrick, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) had 13 digs.
The Royals will be back in action on Friday and Saturday in the Buttermaker Tournament at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pa. They open play by facing Ithaca at 3 p.m. on Friday.
