CORTLAND, N.Y. - Junior Kristin Kirwan (Park Ridge, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) went over 1,000 career kills on the night, finishing with match-best 23 kills, as the University of Scranton volleyball team remained unbeaten on the year with a come-from-behind five-set victory (23-25, 25-21, 22-25, 25-21, 15-7) at SUNY-Cortland on Wednesday night.

With the win, the Royals improved to a perfect 10-0 on the year, which matches the best start to a season in program history (the 1978 Royals finished the season 10-0). SUNY-Cortland fell to 4-6 overall with the defeat.

In the victory, Scranton fell behind, 2-1, after three sets. But, the Royals once again roared back late in a contest, winning the fourth game by four points, then rolling to an eight-point win in the fifth game to clinch their second victory all-time over Cortland in 10 meetings.

Overall, Kirwan led the way on the attack again, as her 23-kill night puts her over the 1,000 career kill mark (Kirwan now has 1,015 career kills). As a junior, Kirwan becomes just the ninth player in the history of the program to record at least 1,000 kills in her career.

Elsewhere on the attack, junior Megan Monastra (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) finished with 13 kills, while freshman Kindler Norman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) had another big night, finishing with 52 assists. On defense, freshman libero Regina Schetroma (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) had a team-best 16 digs, while sophomore Victoria Capogna (Farmingdale, N.Y./St. Anthony's) finished the night with five blocks (three solos) up front.

The University of Scranton volleyball team returns to action on Friday, traveling to Ramapo for the Roadrunner Invitational. There, the Royals will take on Mt. St. Mary (at 4 p.m.) and St. Joseph's (at 8 p.m.).
