BRONX, N.Y. -- Junior goalkeeper Colleen Berry (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) made 10 saves to help The University of Scranton women's soccer team pull out a 0-0 draw in double overtime against New York University at Gaelic Park on Tuesday night.
Berry's 10 saves were enough for her fourth shutout of the season and were the second-highest total of her career. The Royals (4-2-1) needed every one of those saves as they were outshot 23-6 on the night.
Despite being outshot by NYU (3-2-1), Scranton had the best offensive chance in the night in the 59th minute. Moments after Berry made a save, the Royals went on the counterattack, getting pressure inside the Violets' box. But a header by junior midfielder Brittany Uricchio (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) rang off the post and bounced away, ending the threat.
Junior forward Jamie Hreniuk (West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) led the Royals with two of the team's six shots.
NYU finished the night with a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
The women's soccer team will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 23, when the Royals open Landmark Conference play by hosting Moravian at 1 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Field.
