Seniors Kieran Bracken (Stamford, Conn./South Kent) and Michael McKenna (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) scored goals to lift The University of Scranton men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Juniata on Senior Day on Saturday at Weiss Field.
The Royals (6-8-2, 4-3-0 Landmark) finished in a tie for fourth place in the Landmark Conference with Moravian, but lost the tiebreaker do to a 2-1 loss to the Greyhounds earlier this season.
After a scoreless first half, Bracken opened the scoring in the 50th minute when he knocked home a short cross from junior midfielder Justin Hammert (Archbald, Pa./Scranton Prep). It was Bracken's second goal of the season and Hammert's second assist.
McKenna doubled Scranton's advantage in the 76th minute with his first career goal. It was a similar play to the Royals' first goal, as junior forward Jon Roberts (Whitehouse Station, N.J./Immaculata-Somerville) got free on the left side of the box and sent a short cross to McKenna, who converted to seal the victory. Roberts picked up his team-leading sixth assist of the season.
Scranton controlled the run of play most of the afternoon, finishing with an 18-4 advantage in shots and 12-2 in corner kicks. Sophomore goalkeeper Jake Hodlofski (West Chester, Pa./Malvern Prep) saved both shots he faced for his third shutout of the season.
The Royals finished the season on a three-game winning streak, all against Landmark Conference foes.
Prior to kickoff, The University of Scranton honored the Royals' three seniors – Bracken, McKenna and forward Michael Donnelly (Mahopac, N.Y./John F. Kennedy).
