Kirwan Reaches Milestone As Women's Volleyball Splits Pair Of Matches On Friday Night

ASTON, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's volleyball team posted a 3-0 win over Haverford to start its Friday night, but suffered a tough 3-2 loss to Cabrini later in the evening at the Knights Invitational at Neumann University. Along the way, senior outside hitter Kristin Kirwan (Park Ridge, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) added her name to an exclusive list in team history.

The Royals rolled past Haverford, 25-20, 25-22, 25-19 and then rallied from a 2-0 deficit against Cabrini before the Cavaliers took the match, 25-17, 25-17, 21-25, 13-25, 15-11.

Kirwan had a big match, finishing with 13 kills and 11 digs. Fellow senior outside hitter Megan Monastra (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) added seven kills and 16 digs.

Scranton also received 33 assists from sophomore setter Kyra Bevenour (Sicklerville, N.J./Washington Township) and 20 digs and three service aces from sophomore libero Regina Schetroma (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West). Sophomore outside hitter Jillian Graham (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) added four kills and four block assists.

Cabrini 3, Scranton 2 -  box score

Kirwan reached a milestone in the second match, recording the 1,000th dig of her career. She becomes just the eighth in the 44-year history of the program to post 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in a career for the Royals. Kirwan finished the match with a team-high 17 kills and 10 digs.

Monastra had another big match, tallying 16 kills and 18 digs, one shy of her career high set last weekend against Vassar. Senior middle hitter Catherine Manning (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester) also had 14 kills and freshman middle hitter Eryn Boken (South Pasadena, Calif./Westridge School For Girls) finished with eight kills and four block assists.

Bevenour posted a career-high 49 assists along with nine digs. Schetroma again had 20 digs and added four service aces, and Graham chipped in again with five block assist and three kills.

The Royals are back in action on Saturday in the Knights Invitational when they face New York University at noon and the host, Neumann, at 2 p.m.
