EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. – Trailing by a goal early in the second half of Tuesday night's non-conference field hockey game at Wilkes, The University of Scranton scored three goals in a 6:44 span to rally for a 3-1 victory.
Junior Nicolette Keale (Wall Township, N.J./Wall) recorded a goal and an assists to lead the Royals (8-1), who also received goals from sophomore Megan Gallagher (Thorndale, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) and senior Elizabeth Tolley (Brookside, N.J./West Morris Mendham).
After a scoreless first half in which Scranton doubled up Wilkes in shots, 6-3, the Colonels (5-4) took a 1-0 lead by scoring just over a minute and a half into the second half.
Just over two minutes later, the Royals knotted the score back up at one-apiece as Keale score her second goal of the season unassisted.
Gallagher gave Scranton its first lead of the evening just 1:09 later with an unassisted marker. Gallagher's 40th minute goal was her fourth of the season and would prove to be her second game-winning strike of the season.
Tolley completed Scranton's surge in the 46th minute, taking a pass from Keale and firing home her seventh goal of the season, tying her for the Royals' team lead.
Junior Claire McAllister (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) made four saves to earn her second victory in as many starts this season for Scranton while junior Lauren Earnshaw (Audubon, Pa./Methacton) recorded her second career defensive save in the win.
The Royals held a 14-11 advantage in shots for the game along with a 9-8 edge in penalty corners.
Scranton will resume Landmark Conference play on Saturday at Goucher. Game time between the Royals and Gophers is set for 1 p.m. in Baltimore.
